As a professional room thermostat manufacturer and researcher, E-Top has been working on developing smart thermostats that not only make your life easier, but also help you save money by using a variety of methods, including turning off the heat when you're out and turning it off early Boiler so as not to overuse the set temperature. However, if you don't use a smart protocol called OpenTherm, you may not get the full power savings you deserve.

Why should you need an OpenTherm  boiler and thermostat?
In traditional boiler or underfloor heating systems, a simple relay is used to turn the boiler on or off. When the boiler turns on, it heats the water to a preset temperature until the thermostat tells it to turn off.

But usually when your radiator is fully turned on, it often exceeds the actual room temperature you set. As a result, the room thermostat waits until the temperature drops, then turns the boiler on to its maximum gear again. The average temperature you achieve may be correct, but you will end up over and under the levels you set, which is not ideal.
This cycle repeats. Efficiency and control are gone.

OpenTherm, as the name suggests, is an open standard digital interface for modern boilers. With OpenTherm thermostat, you get a digital interface to your boiler, allowing your smart thermostat to change the temperature of the water used for heating. This is called modulation.

Since most smart thermostats know how long it takes your home to heat up, they can measure the amount of heat needed to warm your home. From this, they can set the boiler to the most efficient water temperature to achieve their goals. In many cases, the thermostat may set your water temperature to a lower level, using a longer heating time to reach the set temperature. With modern condensing boilers, running longer at lower temperatures can be more efficient and save you more energy.

Once a certain temperature is reached, OpenTherm may lower the water temperature further to balance the natural heat loss through your home's walls, windows, doors and roof.
Importantly, using OpenTherm means the boiler uses only the energy it needs to provide the heat it needs at the time to save money.

About E-Top OpenTherm products
We produce sophisticated Opentherm Room Thermostat which provides modulating control of OpenTherm equipped condensing gas boilers. The thermostat is fully compliant with the OpenTherm 4.0 communications protocol including low load regulation and domestic hot water keep hot feature now in common use in many combination boilers.

As updated products, we newly add wifi control functions, users will easily understand and control the room temperature & domestic hot water situation from APP. What’s more, when boiler not working, user can checking OpenTherm 127 items information from app list, or share the device with maintenance worker to find our issue without going to users home.
